The Shiawassee County Democratic Party is deeply shaken by the recent hate crime targeting our headquarters and the LGBTQ+ community in Owosso. The plot, motivated by hatred and bigotry, was an attack on the principles of equality, safety, and inclusion that our party and our community hold dear.
We are profoundly grateful for the incredible professionalism, communication, and diligence demonstrated by the Owosso Police Department, the FBI Detroit Field Office, and all law enforcement agencies involved. Their swift action and coordination prevented an unthinkable tragedy, and their commitment to justice has been a beacon of reassurance during this difficult time.
This incident shocked our party to its core, but it also highlighted the resilience and determination of our members and our community. We came together to continue our work on behalf of everyone in Shiawassee County, reaffirming our commitment to standing with our LGBTQ+ neighbors, family members, and friends. Hate has no home here.
The Shiawassee County Democratic Party remains steadfast in its mission to create a more inclusive and equitable community. We will not allow acts of hatred and violence to define us. Instead, we call on all residents to join us in rejecting hate and fostering understanding, respect, and compassion for all people, regardless of their identity or background.
